       I'm running for Congress as a Green. The time has come for Greens to join the democratic process. Obama and Democratic Congress have reneged on many, if not most of their promises.     The disparity between rich and poor is growing. Unemployment rates are fast approaching the rates of the Great Depression. Home foreclosures continue to increase in number.
    Wall Street and the banks have been bailed out, while the working class suffers.
    The health care bills have been hijacked by by insurance and pharmaceutical companies, making things worse for providers and patients. Whatever happened to single~payer
health care?
    The bombing of civilians in Afghanistan continues, along with the drain on the US Treasury from the Iraq occupation, Iran is being threatened on behalf of Israel. And our environment and infrastructure continue to deteriorate. What sort of legacy are we leaving for our grandchildren7.
    The disgust of the voters with both parties is what creates the opportunity for the Greens. A real alternative to the one party system has a chance right now, in a way that hasn't happened before.
    It's obvious that Green policies are needed to challenge the Obama admistration on medical marijuana raids, offshore drilling, torture, wiretapping, drone missile attacks, preventative detention, the Military Commissions Act, the Patriot Act, and the Homeland Security Act- with their many abrogations of the Bill of Rights.
     It's obvious that the middle class is disappearing, and now even Social Security may be under attack.
With the exception of a few progressives like Barbara Lee, Kucinich, Maxine Waters, the Democrats in Congress demonstrated their complicity with the Bush administration by allowing funding for the Iraq occupation and troop surge to go forward, and now support what has become President Obama's war in Afghanistan.
    This includes incumbent First District Congressman Mike Thompson who voted for the Pelosi war funding bill in 2009 and was rewarded with a House intelligence subcommittee chairmanship.
     Thompson is in his seventh term, repeatedly elected with more than 60% of the vote in a district which stronly opposes the war and wants single payer health care. A loyal Blue Dog Democrat, he has gone along with the party line funding the war and opposing even the public health care option. He never joined the Progressive Caucus, he never signed on to Conyer's '05 impeachment bill- HR 635.
    Here's what my Green Congressional candidacy will accomplish:
   1) Keep hope and a positive vision of the future alive.
   2) Be a focus for building and strengthening the Green party.
   3) Provide a credible challenge to the one party system.
    California District One is one of the more progressive districts in the country, and we have a real chance of becoming the second party here. Greens do not accept corporate contributions. I am free to support changes that benefit the voters. I support remedies for boeh immediate ills- the loss of jobs, homes, healh care; the steady increase of fascist policies, and also for ills that have been ignored and have for for centuries- the oppression of Native Americans, African-Americans and Hispanics, the destruction of the environment by profit hungry corporations, the militarization and regimentation of our country. The remedy is in the 10 Key Values of the Green Party and the Longhouse Coalition platform.
